Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When is beef available?

Answer.

We always have beef available at the beginning of December - Christmas wouldn't be the same for us without rib of beef on the table.

Living as near to the coast as we do, we often find ourselves having to cater for family and friends who come stay in the summer months. During this busy period, stocks of beef can run low so we sometimes have to take another one in to keep up with demand.  Our guests really appreciate the pleasures of home produced food and it is so nice to be able to spoil them.

Q. How is your beef sold?

Answer.

We sell most of our beef by the box however, we also offer individual cuts.  Further details can be found in our price list, available on request.

Q.  How much can I expect to pay for your beef?

Answer.

Our prices are in line with those charged by the leading supermarkets for their 21 day matured beef for example, Sainsbury's 'Taste the Difference' range, Tesco's 'Finest'.

To receive a copy of our latest price list/order form, please telephone (01974 821522) or e-mail (alvecoteherd at btinternet dot com).

Q. Is your beef suitable for freezing?

Answer.

Yes of course. In fact, some of our regular customers buy enough beef to last them through until the next one goes in.

Q.  How is it packed?

Answer.

All our beef, with the exception of burgers is vacuum packed (unless otherwise requested) ready for the freezer. Vacuum packing is very hygienic, enhances storage times and protects the beef from freezer burn thereby maintaining the superb eating quality.

Q. I usually purchase my meat from a butcher's shop/supermarket how can I be sure that your beef is safe to eat?

Answer.

We appreciate your concern about unwittingly purchasing from someone who is not registered for environmental health inspections as the law requires. However, we would like to reassure you that we take your health and well-being very seriously indeed and are fully committed to meeting the standards required by Ceredigion County Council as a registered food producer having received appropriate instruction and training in hygiene and food handling.  As you would expect, our environmental health inspections are quite stringent because as well as supplying beef, we also cut and pack it here on the smallholding.

Q. How do I place an order?

Answer.

By telephone (01974 821522), by e-mail (alvecoteherd at btinternet dot com) or by post to Mrs J Parkes, Llethr Wernen, Penuwch, Tregaron, Ceredigion, SY25 6RA.

We will give you an approximate date for collection/delivery when you order from us and we will keep you informed as things progress.

Orders can be paid for in cash, by cheque or postal order (please allow 6 working days to clear and make payable to 'Mrs J Parkes').  We do not have facilities to accept debit card payments directly but you can pay using this method via PayPal.  In these circumstances,  a PayPal request for payment will be sent via your e-mail address, you do not need to have or open a PayPal account yourself and you will not be charged for the transaction.

Q.  What are your opening hours?

Answer.

We do not operate a farm shop as such, so do not keep regular hours.  We are very happy for you to collect your order at any time (weekends included) but unless we are expecting you, please telephone (01974 821522) before you set out.

Q.  Can you deliver locally?

Answer.

Yes, we can. Delivery is free of charge within a 10 mile radius of our home (subject to a minimum order value of £39). For deliveries outside the 10 mile radius please contact us. Unless pre-paid, you must pay for your beef in cash at the time of delivery.

Q. Do you supply by mail order?

Answer.

Yes, we do. All mail order deliveries are subject to postal charges at current rates for Royal Mail's Next Day Delivery™ service. Your order can be taken prior to cutting and we will acknowledge your request upon receipt. We will contact you to confirm your order,  request payment and to let you know when it will arrive. When we receive payment from you, your order will be dispatched and we will tell you that it has been posted. Someone must be available to accept delivery since your beef should be unpacked and refrigerated upon arrival. If you would kindly let us know that your meat has arrived safely we would be most appreciative.

Q.  What happens if my beef doesn't arrive as expected?

Answer.

We hope that your order will be delivered by Royal Mail as scheduled, but if this does not happen, then please telephone us immediately and we will investigate.

Q. How do I cancel a mail order delivery?

Answer.

We regret that we are unable to accept cancellations once your order has been dispatched nor returns due to the perishable nature of fresh meat.

Q. If I have a problem with my order what should I do?

Answer.

In the unlikely event that you do have cause for concern then please contact us immediately by telephone (01974 821522), by e-mail (alvecoteherd at btinternet dot com) or in writing addressed to Mrs J Parkes, Llethr Wernen, Penuwch, Tregaron, Ceredigion, SY25 6RA and we will do our very best to put this right.

We are justifiably proud of the meat that we supply as we have to-date, received no complaints about the quality of the beef or the level of service provided.  We have always treated people the way we would like to be treated ourselves and have never supplied beef that we would not be happy to eat personally or serve to our guests.
